What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy simply means ‘nature cure’. It is a way of healing that works with, rather than against, your body. Naturopathy goes beyond simply diet. It considers hydration, food, purposeful supplementation and naturopathic techniques. Naturopathy combines old wisdom with modern day living and works on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

Allopathic Medicine

This is symptom based. Medicine is based on suppressing and stopping symptoms. Much of the time, the medicine interferes with other functions and can create additional symptoms that require more medication to control.

Naturopathic Healing

This is environmentally based and focused on allowing the body to express symptoms. The symptom is viewed as simply an expression, with the real work being to examine why that symptom is occurring, including what has changed in the environment. Treatment looks at making lifestyle changes the patient can control, which can often also have a positive impact on other existing symptoms and complaints

The support programme consists of twelve weekly themes, along with online one-to-one sessions.

Month One

This includes weekly online one-to-one sessions, as well as weekly themes, weekly lectures, weekly recipes and weekly motivational quotes.

  • Week 1: Hydration and Water

The solution to pollution is dilution and that’s what this week’s focus will be all about. Together we will work to fully understand how to switch on your own natural thirst and break down dehydration alert at cellular level. We will explore diuretics and alternatives.

  • Week 2: Hydrated Foods

Is your stomach struggling to churn all the food round and stealing water from your body to do so? This week we will discover how to send a hydrated message to our cells through the foods we eat and discover new and exciting ways to do this.

  • Week 3: Routes of Elimination

It’s now time to introduce you to your body’s main routes of elimination and what we can do to open these up and help our body release the toxins. This will also help to prepare your body to go deeper in the healing journey and support your liver to absorb the delicious oils and fats we will be exploring in Week 4.

  • Week 4: Fats and Oils

Now it’s time to look at fats that heal and fats that kill. There’s a reason some fats are called ‘essential’ and some are called ‘damaged’ and this week you’ll be learning all about them. Learn how to supplement your diet with these delicious oils and fats and discover a number of delicious ways to introduce them into your daily life.

Month Two

This includes fortnightly online one-to-one sessions, as well as weekly themes, weekly lectures, weekly recipes and weekly motivational quotes.

  • Week 5: Grains and Gluten

Move over gluten and grains and hello pseudograins. It’s time to discover what grains and gluten (bread) do to your body and explore really exciting alternatives to tickle your taste buds and add variety into your diet. Remember, variety is the spice of life…your delicious life.

  • Week 6: Sugar and Salt

It takes three feet of sugar cane to produce one teaspoon of sugar! Imagine chewing your way through that bad boy. Sugar and salt are not bad for us when they are in the purest form (the one given to us in nature) and in the quantity nature intended. It’s what we have done to them that makes them unhealthy for our bodies. Time to explore the different varieties of salt and how to use salt therapeutically as part of your healing plan. We’ll also look at other ways of sweetening foods than just sugar – you’ll discover how you really can have your cake and eat it!!

  • Week 7: Dairy

Humans are the only mammals to carry on drinking breast milk after weaning. Why is this? We look at the whole subject and what dairy does to our bodies at a cellular level and ask: is it time to be weaned? Time to get excited about delicious and nutritious plant-based alternatives to dairy.

  • Week 8: Superfoods

Inject your life with va va voom with these super guys…superfoods! Some foods are nicknamed superfoods for good reason and this week we will explore some of the main ones I keep in my tool kit. You will discover the world of adaptogens and look at ways you can introduce them into your delicious life.

Month Three

  • Week 9: Purposeful Supplementation

Are you making very expensive poo or peeing out money? You could be, if you don’t fully understand the world of supplementation. Learn how to choose supplementation in a purposeful manner to enable your body to make use of the nutrients and shine with vitality.

  • Week 10: Illness and Dis-ease

Why do some people get unwell after sitting next to Mr Snotty and Mrs Sneezy on the bus and others don’t? Is it bad luck? It’s time to look at a new way of health and explore soil theory. You are as healthy as your internal soil, so let’s look at ways of cleaning up this soil. We will be looking deeper at the routes of elimination during this week and filling your toolkit with tools to carry with you on your healing journey.

  • Week 11: You Are What You Think

Deepak Chopra says: “every cell in your body is eavesdropping on your thoughts”. Let’s explore the conscious and unconscious mind and start to use our mind to help us heal.

  • Week 12: We Are Nature

We are part of nature and we are animals. As animals and living beings, we are influenced by the natural cycles around us. This week, we explore seasonal influences and moon cycles and how we can use this knowledge to help us cleanse and grow.

Who will be my guide on this fantastic healing journey?

Salena Walker: I am a fully qualified Naturopathic Nutritionist, living on ten acres of land with my partner, with whom I am currently building a wooden cabin at the edge of our woodland. This will be a permanent home and the centre of our natural lifestyle. My mission in life is to connect others to their internal and external environment, focusing on what they drink, eat, breathe, think – and even excrete! I feel as if I have been studying naturopathy and nutrition since a young child, as I explored the differences I could make through my food choices and discovered the stillness of nature amongst the beautiful Welsh landscape in the Valleys of South Wales, where I grew up.

My real deep dive into the world of naturopathy and nutrition began back in 2008. I started to become very tired. In fact, the word ‘tired’ does not even begin to describe how I felt. Neither myself, nor my doctor, had any idea of what was wrong. I was finally diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Pernicious Anaemia. I believed the diagnosis, but was too stubborn to accept the prognosis. And so my journey began… I started my studies with the intention of learning, but eventually found the way to healing my autoimmune dis-ease and ended up becoming a practitioner, a naturopathic teacher, writer and a motivational wellness speaker!

I am passionate about living the naturopathic way, at one with nature. My hope is that it will also inspire part of your own transformational journey. My aim is to empower people with the tools they need for their own healing journey.

Who is this programme not suited to?

I initially created this programme in response to my clients, who have requested additional support. However, this style of programme is not for everyone. This programme will not suit you if:

  • You want a quick fix, as there is no quick natural fix. I believe you have to make sustainable changes over a period of time and introduce new things to the body slowly. The one thing I learnt on my own healing journey, is there is no golden nugget that heals, no magic elixir. It’s about making a change at every level.
  • You are looking for a diet plan that will tell you exactly what to eat for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. The purpose of this programme is to empower you with the knowledge to make your own choices and to inspire you with plenty of recipes. But it will not tell you exactly what to do, what to eat and at what times, as I feel this can be disempowering. I want you to leave at the end of this programme fully understanding of how to make your own choices – and able to make these choices independent of both me and the programme.
  • You want to lose weight and don’t care how you do it, or how healthy the process might be. This programme suits those who understand that the main goal is health and after that, everything else will fall into place.

  • How do I book my sessions?

All sessions will take place online via Zoom. Instructions will be emailed out to you on purchase. 

  • Can I go through the weekly resources at my own pace?

The idea of this programme is that you go through all of the resources as set out in the programme at your own pace, and at a time that suits you. The programme has been developed alongside clients to ensure the timing is right to suit all kinds of lifestyles, so you don’t feel overwhelmed and can celebrate at each step of the way.

  • Can I still take part if I have certain medical conditions?
